HAPPY NEW MONTH!!!

More often than not, one of the hardest things to do is to stay encouraged. A whole lot of things can stand in our way and can discourage our drive and mojo. And as the saying always go, it's a survival of the fittest. If you're not strong and fit at heart, anything and just anything would blow you away. We get discouraged when we're not achieving our goals, when our relationships are not turning in the direction we expect, when our savings are not speaking English, when people around us are being very negative towards our ideas and when we are not where we want to be spiritually.

How then can you stay encouraged even in all of this?

                          STAYING ENCOURAGED THIS AUGUST

1. KNOW WHAT YOU WANT

If you don't know what you want, people will help you define what they think you should want and that would never turn out right. Knowledge is power and it must be directed into the right direction. When you think everyone is tossing you here and there, pause, sit down for a minute and ask yourself,

'What do I want? What do I really want?'

If you can answer that question, you can then make right decisions in that direction. This applies to every sphere of your life. You need to keep asking this question. Either in your business, workplace, relationship, spiritual life, friendship circle, academics and even in your personal life. You have to know what you want from all these things.

2. FOLLOW POSITIVE PEOPLE WHO ARE LIKE - MINDED

If you are to check your followers on Instagram, you would be surprised that majority of them are people who are not even like - minded. They are absolutely different from you and you're just following them because other people are or one of their posts caught your fantasy. Even your friends on Facebook. I used to add anyone who sent me a request on Facebook till I had over 4,000 friends and couldn't see the positive impact that large number had made. So, I decided to be selective. Too many people can be very discouraging because they'll throw different ideas and advice at you and you'll end up being confused. On social media, follow people whose posts inspire and encourage you, whose line is on the same path you are walking and whose posts excite you. Don't follow people to stalk them. Following positive people who are like minded would keep you encouraged even when you are down.

3. DEFINE YOUR FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE

You have to know your friends and your acquaintance. Your friends should be people you can confide in about anything or most things. Your acquaintance should be people you say 'Hi' to and you can stop by and laugh about silly things a few times and leave. Nevertheless, you aren't friends. Define your circle. Remove those you know that only sap energy from you and add those who give you energy. The fact that you work in the same place doesn't make him/her your friend. The fact that you live in the same area doesn't make him/her your friend. If you've been friends for a while and you cannot run to them for encouragement when you're down, you need to either cut them off or reduce them to the position of an acquaintance. Like was mentioned earlier, the lesser the better.

4. HAVE A MENTOR

It was very hard for me to choose my mentor and this was because all the people I had around me didn't have that one thing I was looking for. Next month, I'll write on how to choose a mentor. A mentor is very important in your life and oh, has a lot of responsibilities. A mentor would be there to encourage you when you're down and make you see the best in you. A mentor will prune you and point out every error that might have been over looked by others. When the going is tough, a mentor will always be there to pull you up and hold you tight. And even when you reach your goal, a mentor will always still be there to give you every advice you need. Get yourself a mentor!

5. CHANGE YOUR ENVIRONMENT

Sometimes, no one is the problem but your environment. If you live in an environment where the people there are mentally backward in their reasoning and thinking and view of life, you'll need to change environment. If the people at work are not contributing positively to your growth, you might need to start sending out your CV again and change your work. Your environment would eventually tell on you if you are not in the right place. A negative environment can weigh you down but a positive environment can get you excited and encouraged even if you felt down before.

5. DO WHAT YOU WANT

As long as you have identified what you want and you have well defined friends that can ginger you to the right course, you don't need any outside voice to tell you down or tell you that you cannot do it. The fact that they couldn't do it doesn't mean you cannot do it. The fact that it was hard for them doesn't mean it will be hard for you. Do what makes you happy as long as it is right and legal. Importantly, as long as you've sat down and thought it through, do it!

In conclusion, the majority of people that have committed or attempted suicide did so due to the level of discouragement they faced and unfortunately, they couldn't share their problems with anyone. Those who did got bashed or were not given the right answers. If you're facing the same, a change of circle and environment is needed. If you cannot tell your mentor everything and anything, you definitely do not have the right mentor. You would have to change your mentor. In a world where too many people are busy, it's very easy to feel lonely and neglected. That's where your circle, environment and mentor comes in. I could have written a post on HOW to get encouraged but that's giving you fish. Instead, I decided to write a post on STAYING encouraged. That's teaching you how to fish. I hope someone learns to stay encouraged from now on!

On this not, I wish everyone a HAPPY NEW MONTH!!!

Have a beautiful month ahead!
